Of all the possible materials that you could choose for your fencing needs, vinyl is one of the most low-maintenance options. It’s not susceptible to rotting like wood or rust like iron and is virtually unaffected by weather. Still, there are steps you can take to ensure that the performance, look, and durability of your vinyl fence is the best it can be.
Regular Cleaning
As low maintenance as vinyl fences are, they are usually a shade of white or tan and therefore, show dirt and grime very easily. Since vinyl fences have a smooth surface, it just takes a soft sponge, soap, and water to get it shining again. If you do need to scrub off dirt or grass clippings near the base, or insects that didn’t quite make their destination, use a non-toxic household cleaner on those harder stains. After completing yard work, use your garden hose to rinse off any residual dirt that may have found its way onto your fence and dry it well as water droplets could also leave marks if not wiped clean.
Adjustment and Alignment
While your vinyl fence won’t be affected by weather activity, the ground that houses your fence could very well change as a result of rainfall. The dirt around your posts could soften and affect the security of your fence. Examine your fence to ensure that it is still level in the ground. If needed, make necessary adjustments by re-tamping or realigning loose posts. If your fence has a gate, be sure to oil the hinges and check that all screws are tight and functional.
Use Protectant
Vinyl protectant will act as a shield between your fence and any harmful effects from the sun, stains, and other abrasive elements. Ultraviolet rays could cause the color of your fence to lose its brilliance and begin to look dull. Protectant will also guard against the growth of mildew and keep stains from being an unsightly burden.
