Spring Cleaning Tips for Chain-Link, Wood, and Aluminum Fences

Today, we’ll be providing spring cleaning tips for aluminum, chain-link, and wooden fences.

Spring is finally here, and with the spring season comes spring cleaning. While you might be thinking about cleaning your house during this time, there’s also another area of your home that might need cleaning, and that’s your fence. The manner in which you clean your fence depends on the material from which your fence is made. Today, we’ll be providing spring cleaning tips for aluminum, chain-link, and wooden fences.

Cleaning Aluminum Fences

While aluminum fences can be low-maintenance, there are still cleaning tasks that you’ll need to get done on occasion. To start the cleaning process, make a mixture of warm water and dish soap. After that, you should get the fence wet by using a garden hose. Once the surface is wet, apply your soap and water mixture to the fence with the help of a brush or soft sponge. This helps scrub away the dirt and mildew that’s built up on your fence. After you’ve scrubbed the dirt and grime away, give your fence a final rinsing and let it dry.

Cleaning Chain-Link Fences

Chain-link fences are quite durable, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need cleaning a couple of times per year. When getting spring cleaning done for a chain-link fence, you should make a mixture of water and household cleaner. Then, like with an aluminum fence, wet the surface with a hose before applying your cleaning solution to the fence. Then, after you’ve used a stiff brush to apply this cleaning solution, rinse your fence off so that no soapy residue is still there.

Cleaning Wooden Fences

When cleaning a wooden fence, you don’t want to use harsh cleaning methods because these can cause the wood to splinter. To start, you want to take some water and mix it with a deck cleaner. Once again, wetting the surface with a garden hose is advised, followed by a gentle application of your cleaning solution, which should be applied with a soft-bristled brush. Lastly, like with the other two fencing options, finish the job by rinsing your fence with a garden hose, then allow your fence to dry completely.
